Downloading and installing Norton Internet Security 2012 beta

Apr 29, 2011

Earlier this week, I wrote about the new beta version of the NIS and about new features and enhancements provided with Norton Internet Security 2012 beta. It seemed that there would not be any problems with downloading or installing NIS 2012, but apparently not so simple and some people clearly need help. That's why I want to give you a little step by step guide that helps you download and install Norton Internet Security 2012 beta.

Downloading:

To download the Norton Internet Security 2012 beta installer, you must first go to Beta Registration page and fill out a web form, where you must:
  1. select your country of residence;
  2. enter a valid email address;
  3. confirm entered email address;
  4. specify if you want to receive updates in your email;
  5. read and agree to terms and conditions;
  6. click «NEXT» button;

If you are correctly filled in all fields, then in your e-mail will be sent a product key and download instructions:

Also, you will be redirected to a special page where you can download the Norton Internet Security 2012 beta installer:

Please note that the license key for the Norton Internet Security 2012 beta is free and will be valid for 14 days, after which you can simply click the „Renew” option to extend your beta for another 14 days. After 28 days you will need to download and install the next build of this beta to continue using the Norton Internet Security 2012 bet. All beta versions of Norton Internet Security 2012 will expire on September 20, 2011.

Also, you can try to download Norton Internet Security 2012 beta installer directly by accessing this link: NISBetaDownloader.exe (775 kB). But please note that downloading the installer directly you will not get a product key and you can not subscribe to product updates.

Installing

Once the installer has downloaded, you can install Norton Internet Security 2012 beta. In general, nothing complicated about this — even special settings do not need to do.

Just run the downloaded installer and wait until the initialization and downloading is complete:

I have tried to load NIS 2012 from CD onto two seperate laptops, one running Vista Business and the other MS Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit operating system. Both of these machines have ver 2011 on and running perfectly. When I try to load 2012, both machines show the same error message - "not compatible with the operating suystem". Why do software houses improve their products to the point where they don't work!!!

I have tried to load NIS 2012 from CD and had to restore my computer three times! All it seemed to do was remove programs and drivers and then just stop working. In the end I had to resort to downloading Norton 360 from the Norton store, as I was left with no protection online. I did notice that NIS 2012 was replicated in the Czech Republic. I think that something must have been lost in translation. I would never recomend this product to anyone. Total waste of time and money.
